So in recent years one of the most popular Cadillac in the market has been the XT5. It comes in the highly popular SUV crossover category and is well-known for its comfort. Now the 2020 Cadillac XT5 is the same in the fact that it offers great ride quality but not that much in driving and performance.
In terms of performance, it still lags behind its competitors like the BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90. But what does it lack really? Well, here in the following passages we will dive into the specs and interior of the Cadillac XT5 for you. So let’s start the 2020 Cadillac XT5 review with the different trims they offer.

What Does The New 2020 Cadillac XT5 Offer?
Cadillac gave the XT5 a makeover with new bumpers, grille design, and wheels. The standard engine for the XT5 is a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with a V-6 option available which is a change from its past iterations.
Now on this new iteration, the new XT5 is headlined by the sport model and has shed its platinum moniker. But you still have the platinum trim as an option. What that does is that it adds a lot of new features and high-end interior components. The sport model has a few good features as well.
With the most prominent being the new specially tuned suspension and a steering wheel that has been designed to increase driver engagement and all in all the car has a tamer demeanor than before. If you look in the Caddy you will see a newly designed center console with a rotary controller for the infotainment system.
Even the digital gauge cluster got a redesign. Cadillac even said that the interior as a whole got a complete upgrade. There are heated front seats and even night vision is available for the 2020 Cadillac XT5. The base price of the XT5 comes in around 45,090 and it offers two other versions alongside it. There is the premium luxury version which is 49,790 dollars and the sport version which is around 56,090.
For us, we feel that the premium luxury version provides the best value. With the sport version failing to provide that much of an improvement on the mid-tier trim. While the standard version fails to deliver on the luxury promised by Cadillac. The premium luxury version comes equipped with many features that add value to the model.
With things like leather seats, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, wireless charging and many more it is for us the best XT5 option you can buy. What’s great about the premium luxury version is that you can get an XT5 with the all-weather capability and an all-wheel-drive option for just 2000 dollars more than the basic.
The standard XT5 comes with a turbo 4 cylinder engine that produces 237 horsepower. If you add 1000 dollars more than you can have the V-6 version. Now we don’t need to drive the two versions to tell you that the V-6 provides a greater influx of power than the 4 cylinder version.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Specs, Configurations & Performance
So the new XT5 comes standard with a 237 turbo 4 cylinder engine that does not provide great performance value. However, the V-6 version creates 310 horsepower and is a much better option. Now it’s no match for the performance-oriented Porsche Macan S but does perform well against other competitors like the Lexus RX350 and the Volvo XC60.
For daily use, the Cadillac XT5 performs admirably. The V-6 engine is fairly quiet and you have a relatively nice and quiet time when you drive it. However, if you put your foot down then you are bound to hear the harshness of the engine. The 2020 XT5 is pretty well-balanced, however. It can handle twisted roads with the utmost of ease and it becomes better with the optional adaptive suspension.
The body roll for the new XT5 model is great as well. You will feel that the car is firmly planted on the road and it doesn’t swerve and this makes the XT5 a very comfortable ride when you take it on the highways. We feel that Cadillac could have used better technology for the XT5’s shock-absorbing capabilities.
You can feel the objects reverberate through the car when you go over rough stretches of road like broken pavement and what not so there is still room for improvement here. The steering for the XT5 is another aspect where we feel they could have done better. The steering while being good enough lacks the feedback that car enthusiasts crave from models like these.
Now let’s talk about the fuel economy of the 2020 Cadillac XT5. According to fueleconomy.gov, the EPA estimate for the front-wheel XT5 4 cylinder turbo is 24 mpg combined, 21 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the highway. The AWD version of the 4 cylinder engine has EPA ratings around 23 mpg combined, 21 mpg in the city, and 26 on the highway.
Now for the V-6 front-wheel-drive version, the EPA ratings come in at 21 mpg combined, 18 in the city, and 26 on the highway. And for the AWD version the combined and highways EPA ratings fall by 1 “miles per gallon” while the city mpg remains the same.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 Interior, Connectivity & Safety
Now Cadillac has ensured that it provides comfort and deluxe accommodations that the brand is known for in the XT5. It has been fitted with high-quality materials for each individual aspect of the interior. However, this has made us think that there is no design coherence for the interior. The interior has parts that look great individually but when looked at altogether it doesn’t really do the job for us.
That being said, the layout and the driving position of the XT5 is good. Where the 2020 XT5 excels is in its practicality. It has great interior materials, improved ergonomics, and upgraded features including a digital gauge cluster. Along with that, it has above-average cargo space and plenty of smaller bins for knick-knacks and easy to fold rear seats.
These features turn the luxury SUV crossover from Cadillac are even more impressive when you see that it can carry 10 carry-on cases with the rear seat in place. With the rear seat folded you can carry about 24 cases which makes it one of the best in terms of cargo loadout. The 2020 XT5 is stacked in terms of connectivity features.
It comes equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The rotary controller makes the infotainment systems more intuitive and you can get an upgraded Bose sound system as well. Along with these, there are 4 USB ports located throughout the cabin along with an inductive wireless charging pad between the front seats.
Now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the 2020 Cadillac XT5 a 5-star rating but it has to have the full optional features included. For driver assistance features like blind-spot monitoring, you would have to fork out some extra cash.
You can also get driver assistance features like automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist but these are optional. So make sure you look into this before you decide to buy the 2020 Cadillac XT5.
Now in terms of warranties, the XT5 either matches or exceeds its rivals. It offers 4 years or 50,000 miles limited warranty and 6 years or 70,000 miles on the powertrain warranty.
However, it does fall short in the scheduled maintenance part as it only offers free maintenance for the first visit only. The VolvoXC90 still reigns supreme in this part as it offers 3 years or 36000 miles for scheduled maintenance.
